THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT centres BESEA voices in a new, kaleidoscopic show combining original music and research in response to the continuing use of yellow-face in opera.

Working in collaboration with British East and South East Asian (BESEA) creatives, Undone Theatre Associate Artist Joey Jepps responds to the harmful practice of yellow-face by encouraging BESEA self-empowerment and speaking up against the (mis)representation of BESEA identities on stage.

THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT will have its first industry sharing in April 2023 alongside a  two-week exhibition at artsdepot 2-15 April 2023. This free, public exhibition will feature a series of workshops and events for all ages on the themes of the project. It will encourage people from all walks of life to think about the politics of identity on stage and beyond.
